21st Century Learners

21st Century learners are believed to be different from the students that came before them. The only difference is that they have grown through their entire lives with the accessibility of information at their fingertips. "Digital Natives" are believed to have lower attention spans, need instant gratification etc. "Digital Immigrants" are teaching these "Natives" with methods that do not engage the student fully. "Digital Natives" can do the same amount of work and studying in less time because they can get information faster.

Voki's, like these, can help connect to the "Digital Natives" with it's short message, and easy accessibility. Students in my first year of teaching will have the same level of technology skills as in my tenth. The skills that students have with technology won't change, it's the type of technology that will be different. Student's will always adapt to the available technology. Students will continue to want the instant information and instant gratification that technology provides. 21st Century skills will continue to evolve with the technology, and it will be the responsibility of us educator's to evolve our teaching methods to promote problem solving and critical thinking skills. .
